Despite representing a large share of university students worldwide, women remain underrepresented in mathematics<\/strong>. Persistent stereotypes still portray mathematical genius as rare and overwhelmingly male, discouraging many girls from pursuing the field.<\/span><\/p>\n

To challenge these assumptions, we dedicate this article to <\/span>Maryam Mirzakhani<\/b>, the first woman to win the <\/span>Fields Medal<\/b>, the highest distinction in mathematics. Her work transformed our understanding of geometric spaces and opened new paths in modern mathematical research.<\/span><\/p>\n

Countless studies show that girls are less likely to pursue scientific studies, despite achieving better academic results than their male classmates.<\/strong> The persistence of everyday sexism is largely to blame, including the widespread belief that women are not \u201cmade for science\u201d, which implicitly discourages girls from entering these fields.<\/span><\/p>\n

To encourage future scientists, we have chosen to dedicate this article to Roger Arliner Young<\/strong>, the first African American woman to earn a doctorate in zoology,<\/span> whose life story is as impressive as it is scandalous.<\/span><\/p>\n
