Refugee Women Mentorship Initiative

Supporting refugee women across Europe find meaningful employment through mentorship

PLACE is partnering with the Tent Partnership on their new initiative to mentor refugee women in Europe to accelerate meaningful employment. Through the Refugee Women Mentorship Initiative, major corporate brands have committed to leverage their workforce to provide professional guidance and support refugee women.

According to the EU Action Plan on Integration and Inclusion, while refugees have a much lower employment rate than local Europeans, refugee women face the steepest barriers to employment.

Across the EU, even before 2015, employment rates were only at 45% for refugee women as opposed to 62% employment rate of refugee men.

Lack of professional experience or education are not the only causes of this discrepancy. Many refugee women have experience and knowledge but have to start over when faced with bureaucracy, low language proficiency, lack of social and professional network among others.

This mentorship program is designed to enable refugee women to receive one-on-one guidance and support from professional mentors, help them develop and achieve their career goals and find meaningful employment.

Mentorship provides:

Meaningful exchange of ideas

Professional Support

Confidence building

Experience Sharing

More info about the Tent Partnership for Refugees

With more and more refugees displaced for longer periods of time, businesses have a critical role to play in helping refugees integrate economically in their new host communities. The Tent Partnership for Refugees mobilizes the global business community to improve the lives and livelihoods of more than 30 million refugees who have been forcibly displaced from their home countries. Founded by Hamdi Ulukaya, the founder and CEO of Chobani – leading food company in the U.S. – in 2016, Tent is a network of over 200 major companies committed to including refugees. Tent believes that companies can most sustainably support refugees by leveraging their core business operations – by engaging refugees as potential employees, entrepreneurs, and consumers. The full list of Tent members can be found here. Find out more at www.tent.org.
